Compare supervision, shifts and expectations with a practical interview worksheet.
For: Assistant, reception and support-role applicants
A practical pathway
Take these questions with you
Duties: What would I do during a typical shift? Which tasks would I start with, and which require further training? Supervision: Who is my named supervisor? Who helps if that person is unavailable? How is competence checked? Induction: How will I learn hygiene routines, records and the escalation process? When will we review progress?
Schedule: How are evenings, weekends and changes to the rota organized? How are breaks covered? Support: How are difficult client conversations and incidents handled? Can you give a recent example of support for a new starter without sharing personal details? Terms: What are the hours, pay basis, contract form and arrangements for any trial or placement? Which details will be provided in writing?
A simple comparison record
Employer / role: [ ] Interview date: [ ] My three priorities: [ ] What was confirmed: [ ] What is still unclear: [ ] Person and date for follow-up: [ ] Reason this role fits, or does not fit: [ ]
A concrete example is more useful than “we are a family” or “training is provided.” Ask what training actually includes and when it happens. An unanswered question is a reason to follow up, not proof of a bad employer. Compare the answers against your needs without inventing a score for clinical quality.
